Research problems No exact information on epidemiology of melioidosis. No epidemiological information on genotype of the bacteria.

Research Rationale To investigate the melioidosis proven cases in NE of Thailand in order to help disease control. To investigate the drug susceptibility of the B. pseudomallei isolated in order to prevent and/or control drug resistant strains. To study the distribution and correlation of the B. pseudomallei genotypes in various provinces in NE Thailand.

STUDY DESIGN 1 เสนอโครงการพิจารณาจริยธรรม คณะแทพยศาสตร์ และกระทรวงฯ เริ่มเดินสายไปตามโรงพยาบาลและสำนักควบคุมโรคที่ 5 และ 6 เพื่อชี้แจงและขอความร่วมมือ เริ่มดำเนินการเก็บตัวอย่าง จากโรงพยาบาล จังหวัด โดยยึดจากข้อมูลผลการเพาะเชื้อ จัดระบบ online สำหรับเก็บข้อมูลและประสานงาน จัดระบบการส่งตัวอย่างเข้าสู่หน่วยประสานงาน

Conclusion More than 2,465 melioidosis confirmed cases were found only in the NE, Thailand. (2 years). Most of the infection were found in hemoculture, pus, sputum respectively. Based on disk diffusion test, all isolates were highly susceptible to ceftazidime (99.7%) and imipenem (99.9%), but not co-trimoxazole (66.5%). BOX PCR will be used to investigate the epidemiology, relapse, control of disease.
