Listening through sentence stress Do you want to improve your listening skill? Try this listening learning strategy No.1! Sentence stress is the ‘beat’ on words in a sentence which are strong or weak. It is a key for listening to, speaking and understanding English. Try reading the following sentence: Please send me some money because I’ve bought a new computer. If you have not put a stress on the underlined words, this means you should learn more about sentence stress! ในประโยค ภาษาอังกฤษคำที่ จะเน้นเสียงหนักใน ประโยคได้แก่ Content words ซึ่งเป็นคำที่ผู้ พูดให้ความสำคัญ Content words ได้แก่ คำนาม คำกริยาหลัก คำคุณศัพท์ และ คำกริยาวิเศษณ์ นอกนั้นจะเป็นคำ Structure words ซึ่งมี สำคัญน้อยกว่า และไม่ ต้องการการเน้นเสียง ได้แก่ คำสันธาน คำ นำหน้านาม คำสรรพนาม อย่างไรก็ตามการ เน้นคำอาจนอกเหนือ กฎในบางกรณี ทั้งนี้ก็ ขึ้นอยู่กับเจตนาของผู้ พูดเป็นสำคัญ ว่าผู้พูด ต้องการเน้นคำใด ในสถานการณ์นั้น Sentence stress คือ การลงเสียงหนักหรือ เบาที่คำต่างๆใน ประโยค ซึ่งเป็นหัวใจ สำคัญในการฟัง การพูด และการเข้าใจ ภาษา - อังกฤษ ลองอ่าน ประโยคต่อไปนี้ Please send me some money because I’ve bought a new computer. ถ้าคุณไม่เน้นเสียงหนัก ที่คำที่ขีดเส้นใต้แต่ไป ออกเสียงหนักที่คำอื่นๆ แทน แสดงว่าคุณควร เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับ Sentence stress! In an English sentence, words with strong stress are ‘content words’ including nouns, main verbs, adjectives, adverbs. The others are of less importance, and thus need no stress; they are conjunctions, articles, and pronouns. However, there might be exceptions in some cases depending on the purpose of the speaker. How to use this learning record Step 1: Choose any kind of listening material from sources you can access conveniently e.g. textbooks or the Internet. The material should come with a script. Step 2: Fill in the type of listening (e.g. conversation, news), listening topic (e.g. asking for help, storm disaster in Bangkok), and the source where you got the material. Step 3: Write down or copy and paste part of the material with which you would like to practise sentence stress in your Learning record. Step 4: Listen, analyze and underline the stresses found on the material. Step 5: Listen to the material again to get additional stresses and to check the correctness. Step 6: Try repeating after the sentence stresses you have underlined until you can do it well. Further suggestions: Choosing material for listening practice involves making a consideration of the level of difficulty of the material. Materials specially designed for learning e.g. textbooks have an advantage of clear distinction of level of difficulty while some of the materials from the Internet do not have. Moreover, materials for learning also come with a script. การใช้แผ่นบันทึกการ เรียนรู้นี้ ขั้นตอนที่ 1 เลือกสื่อที่ ต้องการฝึกฟังจากแหล่งที่ คุณสะดวก เช่น ตำรา หรือ อินเตอร์เน็ต สื่อที่เลือกมา ต้องมีบทพิมพ์ประกอบ ขั้นตอนที่ 2 กรอกข้อมูล ชนิดของการฟัง ( เช่น บท สนทนา, ข่าว ) หัวข้อที่ฟัง ( เช่น การขอความช่วยเหลือ, พายุถล่มในกรุงเทพฯ ) รวมทั้งแหล่งที่มา ขั้นตอนที่ 3 คัดลอกหรือ ถ่ายสำเนาเนื้อหาที่ต้องการ ฝึกฟังเสียงหนักเบาลงใน แผ่นบันทึกการเรียนรู้ของคุณ ขั้นตอนที่ 4 ฟังและ วิเคราะห์เนื้อหาที่หามาพร้อม ทั้งขีดเส้นใต้คำที่ลงเสียง หนัก ขั้นตอนที่ 5 ฟังหลายๆครั้ง เพื่อขีดเส้นใต้คำที่ลงเสียง หนักเพิ่มเติมและเพื่อ ตรวจสอบความถูกต้อง ขั้นตอนที่ 6 ลองฝึกออก เสียงโดยเน้นเสียงหนักเบา ตามที่ได้ฝึกขีดเส้นใต้ไว้จน ชำนาญ ข้อเสนอแนะเพิ่มเติม การเลือกสื่อสำหรับฝึกฟัง ควรพิจารณาถึงระดับความ ยาก - ง่าย สื่อที่ผลิตขึ้นเพื่อ การเรียนรู้ เช่น ตำรา มีข้อดี คือ มีการแบ่งระดับชัดเจน ง่ายต่อการเลือก ในขณะที่ สื่อที่ค้นหาได้จาก อินเตอร์เน็ตบางครั้งไม่มีการ จัดระดับ นอกจากนี้สื่อที่ผลิต ขึ้นเพื่อการเรียนรู้จะมีบท พิมพ์ให้ด้วย
