POY LUANG FESTIVAL
This festival comes from two local words are "pory" means celebrate and "luang" means big or huge, therefore, "pory-luang" means a big or huge celebration.
Poy Luang is held from February to May ( the 5 th month-the 8th month of the north ). After harvest season ( begining to Summer season )
people have enough money to make merit. This is a northern Thai term for a "Grand Celebration" (after the the region place such as Bhot, Viharn and a priest's bed was built or renovated),
every village will have one. It will last, perhaps, for 3-7 days during which each village household will participate with offerings to the local temple
And they will set a procession with musical instruments such as a gong, a tomtom, cymbals, small cup-shaped cymbals and play along with dancers to the celebrated temple. Afterwards, there is a contest for offerings of each area too.
