เวชศาสตร์ฟื้นฟู : การแพทย์สาขาหนึ่ง - มีหน้าที่ในการบำบัด รักษา ฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพ - แก่ผู้ที่มีความบกพร่องหรือพิการจากโรคหรืออุบัติเหตุต่างๆ - ให้สามารถกลับคืนสภาพใกล้เคียงกับปกติมากที่สุด - ทั้งในด้านสภาพร่างกาย จิตใจ การประกอบอาชีพและการอยู่ในสังคม - อย่างมีความสุขพอสมควรแก่อัตภาพ

7 DISABILITY การสูญเสียสมรรถภาพ:
การจำกัดหรือการขาดสมรรถภาพที่จะทำกิจกรรมใดๆเยี่ยงคนปกติ อันเป็นผลมาจากความบกพร่องนั้นๆ

8 HANDICAP ภาวะด้อยโอกาส:
การเสียโอกาสที่บุคคลใดบุคคลหนึ่ง ไม่อาจดำเนินชีวิตได้ทัดเทียมกับคนปกติ ที่อยู่ในช่วงอายุ, เพศ, วัฒนธรรม และสังคมที่เหมือนกัน ซึ่งเป็นผลมาจากความบกพร่อง และ/ หรือการสูญเสียสมรรถภาพ
