ขึ้น As a preposition ธงชาติ ขึ้น สู่ ยอดเสา The national flag (is pulled) up to the top of the pole.
ขึ้น As an adverb เขา ลุก ขึ้น He got up.
ขึ้น As an adverb พ่อ พูด เสียง ดัง ขึ้น Father spoke louder.
ขึ้น No meaning by itself เสียง ระฆัง ดัง ขึ้น The bell sounded loudly.
ดังขึ้น เสียง ระฆัง ดัง ขึ้น Prior to this, there may be other sounds but not the bell's. พ่อ พูด ดัง ขึ้น Prior to this, father spoke not so loud. Now he increases his voice so it becomes louder.
