1Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness,

6if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination.

7เพราะว่าผู้ปกครองดูแลนั้น ในฐานะที่เป็นผู้รับมอบฉันทะจากพระเจ้า ต้องเป็นคนที่ไม่มีข้อตำหนิ ไม่เป็นคนเย่อหยิ่ง ไม่เป็นคนเลือดร้อน ไม่เป็นนักเลงสุรา ไม่เป็นนักเลงหัวไม้ และไม่เป็นคนโลภมักได้

8but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. 8แต่เป็นคนมีอัชฌาสัยรับแขกดี เป็นผู้รักความดี เป็นคนมีสติสัมปชัญญะ เป็นคนยุติธรรม เป็นคนบริสุทธิ์ รู้จักบังคับใจตนเอง

9He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it. 9และเป็นคนยึดมั่นในหลักคำสอนอันแท้ตามที่ได้เรียนมาแล้ว เพื่อจะสามารถเตือนสติด้วยคำสอนอันมีหลัก และชี้แจงแก่ผู้ที่คัดค้านคำสอนนั้น

10For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. 10เพราะว่ามีคนเป็นอันมากที่ดื้อกระด้าง พูดมากไม่เป็นสาระ และหลอกลวง โดยเฉพาะบรรดาผู้ที่เข้าสุหนัต

11They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. 11จำเป็นต้องให้เขาสงบปากเสีย ด้วยเขาพลิกบ้านคว่ำทั้งครัวเรือนให้เสียไป โดยสอนสิ่งที่ไม่ควรจะสอนเลย เพราะมักได้
