ศึกษาพฤติกรรมของวงจรอย่างง่ายที่ประกอบไปด้วย วงจร RC และ วงจร RL ผลตอบสนองของวงจรจะมี 2 ส่วน เรียกว่า ผลตอบสนองธรรมชาติ (Natural Response) ซึ่งเกิดตามธรรมชาติ ไม่มีแหล่งจ่ายในวงจร และ ผลตอบสนองบังคับ (Forced Response) ซึ่งได้มาจากแหล่งจ่ายในวงจร รวมกันเรียกว่า ผลตอบสนองสมบูรณ์ (Complete Response)
