4 DESCRIPTION OF GRADUATE COURSESIN GEORESOURCES ENGINEERING
Comminution (3-0-9) Condition: Consent of Faculty Fundamental of comminution; fracture mechanics; the measurement of size reduction; breakage and selection functions; mathematical modeling of size reduction processes; the classification, selection and layout of comminution equipments, the control of comminution processes. Solid-Liquid Separation (3-0-9) Introduction to solid-liquid separation; characterization of particle suspended in liquids; efficiency of separation of particles from liquids; coagulation and flocculation; gravity thickening; hydrocyclones; dewatering screen; filtration fundamentals; filter aids; pressure filtration; vacuum filtration; cake washing and dewatering thermal drying; solid-liquid separation equipment selection. Particle Technology (3-0-9) Definition of particle and particle size; types of particle size distribution; measurement of central tendency; surface area; relationship between surface area and particle size distribution density and specific gravity; porosity and internal pore surface area and their relationship to process characteristics; principles of measurement; laboratory measurement; laboratory measurement and presentation of data. Resources Environment and Pollution Control (3-0-9) Major environmental problems from production and utilization of resources; environmental technology to manage and control the problems; Waste minimization waste disposal, environmental planning for the development and utilization of resources including relevant environmental components related to resources utilization. Resources Process Technology and Utilization (3-0-9) Extraction, processing and utilization of resources; review of fundamental principles of process technology and utilization of resources; concepts of technology application; processes of extraction and improvement of material quality; review of principles of process design. Materials Handling (3-0-9) Materials handling involving storage and stockpiling; theory of flow solids in bins and bankers; design of bins and bunkers; conveyors and feeders; homogenization; hydraulic transport in pipe, pneumatic transport and waste sorting and disposal. Physical Process Separation 3(3-0-9) Physical processing of materials; review of fundamentals of separation of materials by physical properties; unit processes including screening, classification, gravity concentration, magnetic, high tension and electrostatic separation flotation, and other physical processes. Chemical Process Separation 3(3-0-9) Chemical processing of materials; chemical processing according to solid state chemistry and solution chemistry; the studies involve roasting calcination and sintering, oxidation and reduction of materials, leaching reactions; kinetics, thermodynamics and electrochemical theory of leaching reactions; applications of solvent extraction and ion exchange; equilibrium and kinetics in solvent extraction and ion exchange; halogenation; calculations and design of chemical processing unit operations and cases study. Materials Characterization (3-0-9) Theories and use of techniques in material analysis including mineralogy, microscopic techniques, differential thermal analysis, thermoqravinretric analysis, x-ray diffraction, x-ray fluorescence, atomic absorption spectrometry, inductively coupled electron microprobe analysis and wet chemical analysis. Microscopic Analysis (3-0-9) Components and functions of microscopes; qualitative and quantitative optical properties of materials; texture and grain size determination of materials; microscopic identification of materials; quantitative analysis of materials.

5 Geostatistics (3-0-9) Condition: Consent of Faculty Introduction to geostatistics; spatial data and geostatistical approach; problems and geostatistical solution; structural analysis and its applications on sampling analysis and optimization; kriging system and characteristic features; estimator and estimation variance; and use of computer codes. Groundwater Flow (3-0-9) Condition: Consent of Faculty Groundwater flow, confined and unconfined flow, boundary conditions, concepts of pollutant transport in groundwater, transport mechanisms, one-dimensional flow model and well hydraulics, flow in recharging and pumping wells, mathematical modeling of groundwater flow in aquifer. Contaminant Hydrogeology (3-0-9) Condition: Prerequisite Fundamental concepts of groundwater contamination, sources of groundwater contamination, solute plumes, solute dispersion, adsorption and retardation, sea water intrusion, remediation options for groundwater contamination and monitoring system. Agglomeration and Sintering 3(3-0-9) Fundamentals of agglomeration and sintering; mechanisms of adhesion between particles; strength of agglomerates; models of agglomerate tensile strength and capillary pressure of agglomerates; porosity of pore distribution in agglomerates; models of sintering processes; briquetting and palletizing; equipment and control in agglomeration processes. Refractories and Ceramics (3-0-9) Refractories and ceramics industry, raw materials for refractories and ceramics. Physical and chemical properties of raw materials and products, ceramics processing and utilization. Applied Surface and Colloid Chemistry (3-0-9) Condition: Prerequisite and or Consent of Faculty Thermodynamics of surfaces in single and multi-component systems; interfacial phenomena; theories of capillarity and electrocapillarity; discussion of the structure and properties of the electrical double layer; electrokinetics phenomena; discussion of Young’s equation. And contact angle in three phases system; surface chemistry of flotation and Flocculation-Surface chemistry of gas-solid reaction. Advanced Flotation (3-0-9) Condition: Prerequisite or Consent of Faculty A detailed study of physico-chemical principles in three-phased system; hydrodynamics and kinetics of flotation process. Resources Assessment and Evaluation (3-0-9) Exploration, sampling an data evaluation of major resources petroleum deposit types, statistical theory, reserve evaluation and calculation, inventory and depletion. Resources Management Principles 3(3-0-9) Types of resources; non-renewable resources utilization; development and exploitation of resources; depletion and exploitation of resources; depletion and conservation; recycling; recovery improvement and losses prevention control of resources utilization and pollution prevention, relationship with environment and related laws; roles of public and private sectors in setting up strategies of resources utilization and management planning.

Resources Recycling (3-0-9) Prerequisite: consent of faculty Recyclable resources; recycling of non-metal, recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous metals; principles of recycling; criteria for recovery and recycling; potential benefits of recycling; recycling technology; limitation of recycling; markets for recycle, factors affecting recycle rates; environmental aspects of recycling. Industrial Minerals Technology 3(3-0-9) The technology of industrial minerals; extraction, processing and utilization of some major industrial minerals and dimension stones and quality improvement of these industry minerals and dimension stones to meet the industrial requirements; discussion of advanced technology of these activities with case studies. Fuel Minerals Technology (3-0-9) The technology of fuel minerals; evaluation or assessment, mining processing and utilization of the fuel minerals and quality improvement of these fuel minerals to meet the industrial requirements; discussion of advanced technology of these activities with case studies. Quarry Technology (3-0-9) The technology of rock and sand aggregate; deposit evaluation, quarrying, size reduction to various industrial application; economic aspects of the technology; quality improvement of products according to industrial specification; discussion of advanced technology of these activities with case studies. Resources Economics (3-0-9) Mineral demand and supply; mineral trade and markets; minerals market model forecasting techniques; time series forecasting; government regulations and taxation; allocation and distribution of earth resources; resources evaluation; utilization; cost-benefit analysis; optimal control approach to earth resources development. Industrial Minerals Economics 3(3-0-9) Industrial mineral industries, structure, demand and supply of industrial minerals, mining, processing technology, quality improvement, costing, pricing; problems of industrial mineral industries. Earth Resources Development 3(3-0-9) Concept of natural resources development, resources characterization, resources evaluation, selection of processing technology; earth resources utilization, economics of earth resources development. Special Studies in Resources Engineering I (3-0-9) Analysis of and discussion on interesting topics in resources engineering.
