Rice Problems จัสมาติ (Jasmati) ซึ่งไม่ได้เป็นพันธุ์ข้าวชนิดที่เกี่ยวข้องหรือเหมือนกับข้าวหอมดอกมะลิหรือข้าวบัสมาติ แต่อย่างใด ยกเว้นเพียงแค่ชื่อที่ประทับไว้บนถุงเท่านั้น ที่จริงแล้วข้าวจัสมาติของบริษัทไรซ์เทค เป็นสายพันธุ์ ที่พัฒนามาจากข้าวพันธุ์ "เดลล่า" (Della) ที่ผลิตในสหรัฐอเมริกา แต่บริษัทไรซ์เทค กลับหลอกลวง สาธารณชนว่าข้าวของไทยเป็นข้าวหอมมะลิของไทย และหลอกให้ผู้บริโภคเชื่อว่าข้าวที่ขายนั้นเป็นพันธุ์ผสม ระหว่างข้าวหอมดอกมะลิจากไทยกับข้าวบัสมาติจากประเทศอินเดีย นอกจากบริษัทไรซ์เทคแล้ว ยังมีบริษัท อื่นๆในสหรัฐอเมริกาที่กำลังทำเช่นเดียวกันนี้อีกหลายบริษัทด้วย ขณะนี้ยังไม่ได้จดทะเบียนสิทธิบัตรสาย พันธุ์ข้าวขาวดอกมะลิเพียงแต่ใช้ชื่อเพื่อผลประโยชน์ทางการค้าเท่านั้น แต่ทั้งนี้ย่อมถือว่าเป็นการกระทำที่เอา รัดเอาเปรียบชาวนาไทย เพราะเป็นการบิดเบือนใช้ชื่อที่อาจทำให้ชาวนาไทยต้องเสียผลประโยชน์ เราได้ตั้ง คำถามต่อบริษัทไรซ์เทคว่าทำไมถึงใช้ชื่อข้าว จัสมาติ และอ้างว่าเป็นข้าวหอมดอกมะลิ ถ้าหากข้าวที่วางขาย นั้นไม่ใช่ทั้งข้าวหอมมะลิและข้าวบัสมาติ นาย จิม สไตรค์กี้ นักพัฒนาพันธุ์ของบริษัท"ไรซ์เทคให้คำตอบว่า " ข้าวหอมดอกมะลิ ในความหมายของเรา หมายถึง ข้าวสายพันธุ์ใดก็ตามที่มีกลิ่นหอมและค่อนข้างเหนียวนุ่ม ส่วนชื่อบัสมาติ หมายถึง ข้าวทุกพันธุ์ที่มีกลิ่นหอม แต่มีเมล็ดยาว และไม่นุ่มเหนียว" ซ้ำยังกล่าวต่อไปอีกด้วย ว่าประเทศไทยหรือชาวนาไทยไม่น่าจะอ้างสิทธิข้าวหอมดอกมะลิได้ เพราะข้าวพันธุ์นี้มีต้นกำเนิดมาจากเกาะ มาดากัสก้า From Biothai Foundation.
