แนวคิด ขจัดข้อจำกัดของระเบียบวิธีการวางตัวผิดที่ค่าขอบด้านใดด้านหนึ่งถูกตรึงไว้ โดยใช้ เทคนิคการลดความชันของเส้นตรงโดยลดความสูงของขอบลงครึ่งหนึ่ง ทุกครั้งที่ค่า รากบรรจุอยู่ในช่วงที่ซ้ำกันเป็นครั้งที่สอง

สูตรวางตัวผิดที่ปกติ ถ้ารากอยู่ขวาของจุดแบ่ง เลื่อนขอบซ้าย และลดค่าความสูงฝั่งขวา ถ้ารากอยู่ซ้ายของจุดแบ่ง เลื่อนขอบขวา และใช้สูตรปกติ ทุกครั้งที่ช่วงบรรจุค่ารากซ้ำกัน จะลดค่าความสูงของขอบด้านที่ซ้ำ(สูตรปรับปรุง) ถ้าช่วงบรรจุค่ารากสลับจากซ้ายไปขวา หรือขวาไปซ้ายจะกลับไปเริ่มที่สูตรปกติ
