มุ่งพัฒนากระบวนการคิดวิเคราะห์ และแสวงหาความรู้ด้านมนุษยศาสตร์ เพื่อให้นิสิตรู้จักและเข้าใจตนเอง ในเรื่องจิตวิญญาณ ความคิดริเริ่มสร้างสรรค์ จินตนาการ และการใช้เหตุผลของมนุษย์ เพื่อสร้างอารยธรรมและศิลปกรรมต่างๆ ตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน อย่างต่อเนื่อง และสามารถนำมาใช้อธิบาย ปัญหาของตนเอง ของผู้อื่น และปรากฏการณ์บางอย่างในสังคมปัจจุบันได้ Gen.ed.courses in Humanities area help undergraduates develop thinking, analyzing, and finding knowledge in Humanities in order to know and understand the spirits, creative thinking and human rationalism. Humanities also include civilization and arts, which have been continuing from the past to the present time.

๑. อธิบายภูมิหลังของแผ่นดิน สังคมและวัฒนธรรมไทย ตั้งแต่สมัยก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ จนถึงสมัยประวัติศาสตร์ แนวคิดทางการเมือง การปกครอง เศรษฐกิจ ศาสนาและความเชื่อ อันเป็นเหตุปัจจัยที่หล่อหลอมสภาพสังคมและวัฒนธรรม ทั้งในด้านภาษา วรรณคดี ศิลปะ ดนตรี นาฏศิลป์ ตลอดจนถึงวิถีชีวิตของชาวบ้านของไทยในปัจจุบัน ๒. ตระหนักและอธิบายความหลากหลายของวัฒนธรรมในชาติในบริบทภูมิภาคอาเซียน ๓. สามารถนำความรู้เกี่ยวกับภูมิหลังด้านต่างๆ ประกอบกับความรู้ที่ศึกษาค้นคว้าด้วยตนเองมาอธิบายเหตุการณ์ สภาพการณ์ ปรากฏการณ์ที่พบเห็นในชีวิตประจำวันได้อย่างสมเหตุสมผลด้วยตนเอง ๔. พัฒนาจริยธรรม คุณธรรม ความรู้ ความ สามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ ทักษะความ สัมพันธ์ระหว่างบุคคล และความรับผิดชอบ ตลอดจนทักษะการสื่อสารและการใช้เทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศ ผ่านกระบวนการ ทำกิจกรรมกลุ่ม Thai Studies is to provide the students with an insight into the background of Thai society as well as an opportunity to appreciate the value of its art, culture, and tradition, which will enable them to become well-rounded personalities who can live happily with others with dignity and proper pride of themselves. Students are expected to develop their academic skills by means of co-operative learning via in-class lectures and field trips; learning through fundamental research and analytical process as a team via Thai Studies Project.

17 Each team must visit … either Museum Siam, or Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall, or Phiphit Banglamphu, to get inspired by their exhibitions. Then propose (to Ajarn Wanna,) by the fourth week, the topic the team is interested to develop into “Thai Studies Project.”

to Southeast Asia some 2,500 years ago have had strong influences over Siamese -Thai art and culture, as well as several other countries in SEA; Islam, Christianity, Confucianism and other religions were also brought into the region by foreigners and at a later time. 26 The government form familiar
to Siamese -Thai society was absolute monarchy, like many old nations in the world, too. Democracy was forced into Thai society in 1932, only 85 years ago. Absolute monarchy was turned into constitutional monarchy, yet the king and his family members are still regarded as humans with godlike quality, because the king is believed to be an incarnation of a supreme Hindu god, Vishnu.

27 Siam-Thailand has been populated with an integration of several ethnicities mostly native to Southeast Asia, since in the beginning of Siam State formation; the Tai is the majority, while the Chinese, the Mon, Laos, and Khmer are of a respectively less percentage. Such integration can be observed through different expressions of traditional Thai art: visual arts, music and dance, and literature. 28 The Thais speak Thai language, but there are dialects spoken by the Thais
in the four main regions – the North, the Northeast, the Central and the South. Official Thai language is, in fact, Central Thai dialect. The Thai language has always been influenced by words and idioms from foreign languages, most important of which in the past are Indian Pali and Sanskrit and Khmer (referring to a civilization prior to the present Cambodia) and Chinese. Since the era of westernization some 150 years ago, English has become more influential. And in the age of globalization, even Japanese and Korean words have been adopted and adapted to Thai tongue.
