What are ‘phrases with prepositions’? A ‘preposition’ is a word which is put in front of or after a noun or a verb to indicate a position, direction or method such as at, in, on, by or with. When prepositions are used with other words they are considered as ‘phrases with prepositions’. Here are examples of phrases with prepositions: ‘at’: at present/at the moment (now) ‘about’: about turn (a big change in your opinion or attitude to something) ‘on’: on and on (continues to happen for a very long time) Phrases with prepositions Do you want to improve your vocabulary bank? You can also use online ones. Step 2: There are two possible ways to research phrases with propositions: (1) start with a preposition you would like to study (e.g. at, by, for, in, on, under, with, within, without.) (2) start with a noun or pronoun if you want to study its use in phrases with prepositions. Step 3: Skim through the dictionaries according to the way you have chosen to work in Step 2. When you find phrases with prepositions, read through their explanations and uses in sentences. Step 4: Note down the meanings and the uses of interesting phrases with prepositions in your learning record. Suggestions: Phrases with prepositions are commonly used in written text. Thus, pay attention when you read written text like articles in newspapers, magazines or textbooks.
