4 1. Introduction ASEAN Community in 2015 Thai-ASEAN juvenile books Thais and Filipinos What perspectives that the Thai writers of the Thai-ASEAN juvenile books have toward the Filipinos?

5 2. Objectives 2.1 To study the perspectives that the Thai writers of the Thai-ASEAN juvenile books have toward the Filipinos. 2.2 To study the strategies that the Thai writers of the Thai-ASEAN juvenile books use to illustrate the Filipinos.

6 3. Hypothesis The Thai writers of the Thai-ASEAN juvenile books have presented the Filipinos in largely positive perspectives with various strategies.

7 4. Data Thai-ASEAN juvenile books: non-fiction extra reading books for primary to high school students. The 10 juvenile books are selected by simple random sampling:

Findings The 11 Perspectives: 1) Filipinos vary in race, culture, and language. 2) Filipinos’ lives are colorful and joyful. 3) Filipinos are awakened to politics. 4) Filipinos have strong religious beliefs. 5) There is equality between male and female Filipinos. 6) Most Filipinos are educated. 7) Filipinos are friends of the Thai people. 8) Filipinos are friendly. 9) Filipinos are a strongly cohesive group. 10) Filipinos and Thais are similar in appearance. 11) Filipinos, as claimed, are poverty-stricken.

14 The Strategy: 1) Using simple vocabulary. 2) Using cartoon pictures.

18 7. Conclusion An interesting observation is that the writers present the Filipinos in largely positive perspectives; 10 out of 11 are positive perspectives. They want to cultivate Thai juveniles in adopting a positive understanding of the Filipinos and to promote harmony in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
