2 ความหมาย แอนิเมชัน (Animation) มีรากศัพทมาจากภาษาละตินวา “Anima” แปลวาวิญญาณหรือลมหายใจ ดังนั้นคำวา Animation จึงหมายความวา การทําใหมีชีวิตจิตใจ ดังนั้น Animator คือผู้ให้ชีวิตนั่นเอง

3 ความหมาย ภาพยนตร์ คือ ภาพนิ่ง หลาย ๆ ภาพเรียงติดต่อกันอย่างต่อเนื่อง ใช้หลักการที่เรียกว่า การเห็นภาพติดตา (persistence of vision)และเมื่อนำเอาภาพนิ่งเหล่านั้นมาฉายดูทีละภาพด้วยอัตราความเร็วในการฉายต่อภาพเท่า ๆ กัน สายตามนุษย์จะยังคงรักษาภาพไว้ที่เรติน่าเป็นช่วงระยะเวลาสั้นๆ
