Past continuous เราจะใช้กรณีต่อไปนี้
1.เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีตและระบุเวลาที่แน่นอน (Time expression = at this time / at 8 o’clock last night) Example: I was reading a book yesterday evening at 6 o’clock. - We were shopping at Lotus at 8 o’clock last night.

2. เหตุการณ์ 2 เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีต คือ ขณะที่เหตุการณ์หนึ่งกำลังดำเนินการอยู่ ก็มีเหตุการณ์อีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่งเกิดแทรกขึ้นมา Example: - It was raining hard when I reached home yesterday - We were playing football when it began to rain.

Negative (ประโยคปฏิเสธ)
โดยการนำ not มาไว้ข้างหลัง was / were จะได้ดังนี้ Was not = Wasn’t Were not = Weren’t I wasn’t reading a book yesterday afternoon. They weren’t playing football yesterday evening.

Interrogative (ประโยคคำถาม)
โดยการนำกริยาช่วย was / were มาไว้ข้างหน้า จะได้ดังนี้ ประโยคบอกเล่า - Bella was reading a book yesterday afternoon. A: Was Bella reading a book yesterday afternoon? B: Yes, She was. No, She weren’t. Affirmative = ยินยอม Negative = ปฏิเสธ
