Specificity และ False Positive
การตรวจคัดกรองมะเร็งปากมดลูกด้วย Pap Smear มีความจำเพาะหรือ Specificity ถึงร้อยละ 99.8 อีกร้อยละ 0.2 เป็นผลบวกลวงเกิดจากความผิดพลาดในการแปลผลการอักเสบจาก Metaplasia เป็น Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN หรือ Dysplasia) หรือ Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) แต่ผลบวกลวงไม่ก่อให้เกิดปัญหาในการรักษา เพราะการวินิจฉัยต้องอาศัยการตัดชิ้นเนื้อตรวจยืนยัน

Sensitivity ความไวหรือ Sensitivity หมายถึงอัตราส่วนของสตรีที่เป็น CIN หรือ SCC แล้วตรวจพบด้วย Pap Smear เท่ากับร้อยละ ซึ่งแสดงว่าร้อยละ เป็นผลลบลวง (False Negative)

ผลลบลวง (False Negative)
เกิดจาก Sample Error คือวิธีการทำ Pap Smear ไม่ถูกต้อง พบมากที่สุด Screening Error มีเซลล์ผิดปกติบนสไลด์แต่ตรวจไม่พบความผิดปกติ Interpretative Error วินิจฉัยเป็นกลุ่ม Benign แทนที่จะวินิจฉัยเป็นมะเร็งพบน้อยมาก
